Margaret Townsend

Margaret Townsend graduated from Bath Spa University in 2009 with a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art.
Margaret is a painter and mixed media artist. The work that she makes has developed from her studies of people and their interactions with each other and the natural world. Using a variety of media and techniques Margaret creates narratives around these observations by carefully juxtaposing themes from diverse sources such as literary, historical, film and current affairs.
A key influence on Margaret’s style is pattern construction. She is intrigued by pattern designs from many cultures; Japanese patterned origami papers and kimono fabrics with their mix of abstract forms and organic shapes, Morrocan Zillϊj ceramic tiles and the flowing lines of Art Noveau’s representations of nature.
