Bee Brodie

This series of works reflects Bee's affection for the Cornish landscape. Inspired by the glorious colours and organic forms found along its stunning coastline, Bee's work explores line shape and form, by translating emotion into pure abstract form.
In her paintings mixed media is built up gradually, and using cloths, brushes and pallet knives, each layer is worked on until shapes emerge and until there is a balance between all the elements. Emphasis is placed too on the need for harmony and often this process takes many months to reach that point.
Photography plays an enormous part in Bee's work practice. As well as using it for preliminary studies for her paintings, Bee is drawn to prosaic subjects and often to textured surfaces, with an emphasis on the abstract form and its relationship to the environment. The colour blue features in many pieces of her work and this reflects her desire to capture the essence of the sea.
